Evacuated horses, staying at Temecula’s Calway Downs, needed supplies.

Starting in the small brush on August 28th, the Chapparal Fire began around noon south of La Cresta in Cleveland National Forest. Mandatory evacuations were required along with placement directions for large and animals. Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department’s August 29th update announced the fire had burned 1,425 acres.Debi Gibney’s post showed up on the Friends of Fallbrook, “Friends!  If you'd like to help with the Chapparel Fire evacuations underway in Murrieta we are in need of water buckets for horses ASAP…Those who are closer to Galway Downs are welcome to bring them to the equestrian gate.”

Rotarian Jen Weeks responded and asked if they needed anything besides the buckets. Debi replied that the horses could use some carrots.  Rotarians Don and Jen Weeks drove around Fallbrook collecting carrots, obtaining water buckets, and heading to Temecula. After some additional directions from Debi, they found the equestrian area.

Don Weeks posed with Dr. Kavel Farhoomand who accepted the donation.

Later that evening, Debi Gibney posted, “We appreciate the buckets and the horses are thrilled with the carrots!”
