District 5340 volunteers place flags at fallen heroes' graves.
At Miramar National Cemetery, District 5340 assigned our club members (Ally, Steve, Don and Jen) to Section 4 near the Memorial Plaza. We worked side-by-side with together the Mission Valley Evening Club, UCSD Rotaract, and Navy personnel. Using the the 12” spacer, volunteers put each flag on the grass at the center of the headstone. Volunteers stated the name of the veteran from the headstone to honor their service and sacrifice. Our section required over 1300+ flags.
The work impacted visitors who visited love ones that day. There was one woman who came to visit her husband's headstone. She thanked volunteers as she returned with her Corgi to her car.
