Dr. Narciso Iglesias, FUHS Principal,  congratulates Student of the Month (SOM) Erica Rodas.

March's hard-working students enjoyed a school-led celebration in front of their homes. Teachers, principals, volunteers, and Rotarians paraded to visit Erica Rodas, Ashley Evans, Sydney Breese, and Felipe Rayon. Rotarians Rotarians Don and Jen Weeks participated and cheered alongside Fallbrook Union High School and Ivy High School representatives. Two school board members joined in the gathering this month.

FUHS SOM Erica Rodas (center) poses with her sister and mother.

Erica was nominated due to her lovely maturity and willingness to listen to absorb knowledge. She wants to attend college like her sister. Even though it is very busy at her house, Erica stays focused on the online classes and gets past the distractions. Her teacher says she will do great things.

Both Erica, her sister, and her mother thanked everyone for the celebration. Her mom is so happy her daughter is so respectful and moving toward college. Her sister said, “I am so proud she is doing her best.”  Erica said, “I am so grateful for the teachers who share their knowledge. I plan to help my community in the future as a doctor. I will study biochemistry at CSUSM and study medicine at UCSD."

Ashley Evans stands with her parents during the SOM presentations.

Mrs. Pinnell, her nominating teacher, calls Ashley a superhero. She gives all her time to the schoolwork and activities: gymnastics, crew and AP classes. Dad says she is most dedicated in gym. She is even motivated during long trips to Sega Gym in Temecula. With her great attitude, he is proud she became a gym coach. She does homework and studies her books to make the good grades. He said, “I applaud her exceptional work.” Her mom concurred and is very proud. Sydney has been accepted by two colleges, plans to study political science and finish her education at law school.

FUHS SOM Sydney Breese stands proudly with her award sign, balloons and gift bag.

Her agriculture sponsor said he was honored to nominate Sydney. She participates in both the Supervised Agricultural Experience Program (SAEP) working with steers and the high school choir. She quietly completes her work while being a good team member with a smile. Trying her best, she is a memorable participant in the agriculture program.

Sydney announced that she was going to Cal State Chico to study Agricultural Science to be a teacher.  Her mom said that her daughter is very focused keeping her eyes on the prize: college. Her dad says she works her way through problems and always asks for feedback.

Ivy High School SOM Felipe Rayon (far right)  stands with his brother, Teacher Sheri Ryan, and Principal Michael Gray.

Everyone celebrated Felipe’s hard work. Ms. Ryan, his nominating teacher, said he powered through his classes despite COVID. He is one of the few who graduated this week. He put in all the hard work and did a great job. His brother is happy for him. Principal said proud of this student, who stands head and shoulders above the others. What is next for Felipe? He said he may go to Palomar with an undecided major — possibly something in construction.

Parade participants really enjoyed making some noise for these excellent students and brought out new year’s party favors. One school board member brought paper horns, and another banged on a homemade drum. Rotarians used tin noisemakers. We are all excited about the future of these recent and upcoming graduates.
