Supt. Garza translated for a happy Student of the Month (SOM) Mother.

Master of Ceremonies Crystal Gates announced the SOM presentation, and Foundation of Christian Athletes’ Chace Steeves opened the event with a prayer. Prior to announcing the students, Superintendent Garza talked about the reason she was wearing pink to start the school year. Pink symbolizes the hope she sees in all these high-achieving students. She reminded everyone to be kind so no one loses the hope for the future.  As the celebration continued, Marines of MAG-39 and the Marine Air Group presented the medals.

This month’s FUHS and Oasis High School students displayed a variety of personalities and goals.

  • One student plays the guitar before his photography class where he is a Teaching Assistant. He took over the class when Photography Teacher Dana Smith had surgery and handles any IT problem. He has plans to use his creativity to be a landscape designer.
  • A strong rugby player pushes herself forward in all her schoolwork and wants to gain higher participation grades. Teacher Estay Cazares saw the future Sports Psychologist become a strong voice and raise her hand to be included in the discussions.
  • A perfectionist AP student with distinction never finishes a test on time but her work is flawless. She always manages to do extra credit. She is still weighing the pros and cons of nutritionist, chemist or something in the medical field.
  • A future professional baseball or football player, who is also an AP scholar, looks at colleges all over the country. While trying to select the best sport, he plans to major in sports management, business or kinesiology.

Congratulations to all of them! Rotarians Don and Jen Weeks attended the event representing our Rotary sponsorship.
